There's a trap, as far as I can see:

Let's suppose he picked that Pyrrha champion as "the right person". If she's killed, what guarantee is there he won't simply stay silent and pick another "right person"? That's the problem here: the champions have no believable guarantee this is a fair proposal.

I can't imagine why he thinks they would take it. They can see the holes as well as we can. But this...

...I don't know much about them, but I've seen that flag in the news before. At the very least this is based on an actual group of pirates. Which is odd on several levels.
