Since we know a lot of people are ready and eager to start playing around in this setting, welcome to the official Airlocked Test Drive! For this test drive, we do have a posting format:

In the header of your comment, put your Character's Name and their Champion title. You don't have to put in the canon if you don't want, but you can if you feel the need.

And the guidelines we ask you to follow are, please try to include at least one prompt in your top-level to reply to, and if you make a top-level try to tag out to at least one other person. We want everyone to get a chance to give their choices a fair shake, after all.

Here are some examples to get you started:

A - Arrival
You wake up in a bed that's not your own, in a shiny chrome room that has bright fluorescent lights that light up along the floor as soon as your feet hit it and glowing sconces on the walls. Whether it's much different from what you're used to or not different at all, it's time to figure out where you are and more importantly, whether you're alone.

B - Mealtime
Well sweet, at least there's a cafeteria! But wait, it seems like there's only hot food during certain times of day. The rest of the time if you go foraging in the kitchen you can find weird silver packages with the name of food on the side that...definitely don't seem big enough to hold the food in question. If you open it up, it seems oddly dry...

C - Zero G
A zero gravity room! Awesome! The walls and floor are textured to give you something to hang onto to crawl across back to the control panel, but if you're floating in the middle of the room you might need someone to give you a push.

D - Holo Deck
A room where all your dreams come true. Kind of. In a photorealistic display of light and sound.

E - Anything else!

This is not an official reserve, nor does it guarantee a slot in the game, but if you do choose to app a character that you test drove, you can use two minimum 20-comment threads or one minimum 40-comment thread (so at least 20 total comments from your character) in place of writing a sample. So have fun with it!

Ah...moving in zero gravity isn't really my strong suit, but I can give it a try.

[Or at least flailing. He's not entirely unfamiliar with zero gravity, but he's not nearly as graceful as some people he knows. So when he kicks off, he drifts slightly off his planned course and ends up having to swat at the air to adjust himself.]

I don't know how KOS-MOS makes this look easy...

[He's going in vaguely the right direction, though! That's better than she managed!]

It's probably a matter of practice. I had hoped to develop my own skill, but...

And I guess being an android helps with the weight distribution part.

[Really, he looks kind of like he's swimming, with the way he adjusts himself. Luckily, grace is ultimately less important than actually getting where he's trying to go, and he manages to stay on course at least enough to reach out to her as he passes.]

[She takes his hand. YAY FRIENDSHIP! I mean, YAY NOT BEING STUCK ANYMORE!]

[You have established a new S.Link? Momentum is just physics, so he's able to drag her to a wall without much trouble. At least he doesn't need to really worry about his direction once he's grabbed hold of her.]

It's a term for a robot designed to look like a human.

[At last, Arianna will be reunited with her closest friend, the wall.]

I see. And a robot is...?

[The wall is indeed a good friend. Allen puts a hand out to control his stop and turns around.]

A robot is...ah...it's a sort of artificial being, made entirely out of mechanical parts, that can move and act like a living creature, either based on an artificial intelligence or by remote control.

I... see.

[Lies.]

It sounds quite complex.

[What's an artificial intelligence? Remote control? Like a living creature? Weren't they talking about a person?]

Oh...I guess it seems like that to someone outside the field. Building KOS-MOS has been the focus of my job for practically my entire career, so it's easy to forget what it must seem like to people who aren't part of the project.

[Let's see about getting back to the wall with the exit, shall we? Instead of kicking off again, he's just going to move along the wall he's landed on.]

[Yeah, that seems a lot easier. Maybe they could turn the gravity back on, too? Although actually the controls are probably by the door anyway.]

That much, I do understand. It's likely that there are subjects like that for each of us, that the rest wouldn't understand.

Probably. Everyone has their own areas of interest, and you can't expect anyone to understand everything.

[They're also a bit high up...getting to the floor can happen when they're closer to the door.]

[Well, the door was already opened, so it makes sense to get on the floor next. Then they just need to walk the dinosaur.]

I've certainly encountered my share of things I didn't understand.

Same here. I'm not even sure I want to understand some of the things I've encountered...

[They can get on the floor and then stay close to the wall. At least having two surfaces to brace against makes moving easier.]

[And it means Arianna can catch herself when she inevitably pushes a little too hard and starts floating away again.]

...still, such situations could easily lead to trouble.

[He also reaches out to catch her, to make sure she doesn't float off.]

Or be caused by trouble. This whole thing is in the 'not sure I want to understand it' category.

[She won't be taking to the air again anytime soon, that's for sure.]

I have to agree. I'm probably happier not having any insight into the thought process that led to all this.

At least everything I went through before, I could see a reasonable motivation for it. This is just sick.

They can't really expect us to begin killing each other?

I don't know. It seems ridiculous, but people do some pretty crazy things when they're desperate...

But--surely they all realize they'd be found out?

I'd like to think so, but...

[He remembers thinking they'd won, that MOMO was safe. Being sure that neither Albedo nor U-TIC would be getting their murderous hands on the Y-data. And then a perfectly laid trap, Jr. losing control, that laughter...he can't help but shudder a bit.]

You'd be amazed how scheming some people can be.

[Arianna has managed to avoid most of the scheming herself, but she knows a couple of people who've gotten away with murder. ~~Maybe. That information is definitely a memory regain candidate.~~]

They cannot conceal that a murder has been committed. We'll have to hope that that's enough.

[Scheming people have been most of his life...not that he's willing to admit to anything in his childhood.]

And with the limited suspect pool, they'd have to hope we blame it on someone else. If nothing else, we can at least assume nobody's likely to try unless they get desperate.
