Since we know a lot of people are ready and eager to start playing around in this setting, welcome to the official Airlocked Test Drive! For this test drive, we do have a posting format:

In the header of your comment, put your Character's Name and their Champion title. You don't have to put in the canon if you don't want, but you can if you feel the need.

And the guidelines we ask you to follow are, please try to include at least one prompt in your top-level to reply to, and if you make a top-level try to tag out to at least one other person. We want everyone to get a chance to give their choices a fair shake, after all.

Here are some examples to get you started:

A - Arrival
You wake up in a bed that's not your own, in a shiny chrome room that has bright fluorescent lights that light up along the floor as soon as your feet hit it and glowing sconces on the walls. Whether it's much different from what you're used to or not different at all, it's time to figure out where you are and more importantly, whether you're alone.

B - Mealtime
Well sweet, at least there's a cafeteria! But wait, it seems like there's only hot food during certain times of day. The rest of the time if you go foraging in the kitchen you can find weird silver packages with the name of food on the side that...definitely don't seem big enough to hold the food in question. If you open it up, it seems oddly dry...

C - Zero G
A zero gravity room! Awesome! The walls and floor are textured to give you something to hang onto to crawl across back to the control panel, but if you're floating in the middle of the room you might need someone to give you a push.

D - Holo Deck
A room where all your dreams come true. Kind of. In a photorealistic display of light and sound.

E - Anything else!

This is not an official reserve, nor does it guarantee a slot in the game, but if you do choose to app a character that you test drove, you can use two minimum 20-comment threads or one minimum 40-comment thread (so at least 20 total comments from your character) in place of writing a sample. 1. Arrival

[ There's something distinctly wrong about waking up in a bed when the last thing you remember is... what was it even? Right, killing and devouring some people. This kind of technology... the first thing he can assume is, once he's finally outside... is that it can only be one place. He leaves the room incredibly quickly, once he's got a pair of glasses on. ... It should be noted that his formalwear tends toward earthtones. ]

... What is this, the Karma Society? Why the hell would they bring one of us here alive?

[ Doesn't make much sense, does it. ]

2. Holo Deck

[ What kind of recreation would a man like Roland want? Something simple. Just a nice, lush forest. No pollution, nothing weird. That's... all he'd like to see. Where there's wildlife. Sure, it's fake, but it's... something he never thought he'd see in his lifetime again, to be honest.

After all, he's not one of the Elite.

Care to wonder why a man in his (probably) thirties would even want something like this? He's just sort of quietly talking to himself, staring at a tree. ]

... Honor, huh? Humans certainly didn't care about honoring the environment.

3. Anything Else (Finding Some Embryon Spirit)

[ ... Gotta be orange paint here somewhere, right? This outfit... sure, it's the colors he'd usually wear, but it's missing something. So you can find Roland kind of just digging around the place, looking for some way to mark his clothes orange. He feels like he made a commitment, after all. He should honor that. Even if he's not there right now. So he's just kind of wandering around from room to room trying to find what he's looking for... ]

[ He probably was not imagining running into a tall girl with long, white hair. It's not tied back--they didn't provide her ribbons. She probably looks almost like a ghost, in her white dress. ]

[ Roland wishes he had about two things right now. A glass, and booze to put in it. Neither of these things are present and he promised he'd be sober, though, so... as quickly as that thought crosses his mind, he forgets about it. ]

Shiny hallways, pretty, decorative areas. This kind of well-built structuring... it's not present underground, where the people like us live. ... You don't look like one of their Elite, after all. I have no idea what they'd want to be getting themselves into, taking someone like me.

[ Someone Infected. They already have Tuners. ]

U-Underground...? ...I l-live near the forest. I work in the village to farm trauben.

I've never s-seen this kind of metal before. It's shinier than any sword... A-And there's a lot of it...

... You mention farming... that shouldn't be possible, from a technical standpoint. At least, from my point of view. Most of the earth's condition is pretty bad. There's a discrepancy here. Did you live above ground, then? What of the sun?

L-Listen, I'm just from a small village in Elphegort. I-I'm not the most clever, b-but...

[ She's messing with her hair and actively trying to make herself smaller. This is so weird. You're weird. ]

[At least, that's the impression she gets, thinking about it being the imagery he chose to conjure here.]

... Of course. But one man's ability to do something to help compared to the countless men who wanted to only destroy such things... there's only so much you can do, when it's already almost completely gone. This kind of scenery... it's rare.

[ At least, it is for him. ]

[Having been a part of the forest for so long, she just can't understand thinking like that. Why would humans hate something like this? It was just... sad.]

Profit. Personal gain. Greed. Those would mostly be the reasons. And, regardless of guilt, all mankind paid for the sins of the select few.

[ He looks at the simulated sun in this image... not black, not cursed. It's... a pleasant image, to him. ]

It's only natural, then, that God would become angry at something like that, eventually.

[ Boxer had always kept to himself in the city called Cloudbank, but even considering he'd been ripped away and ended up here, now didn't seem the time to play the game of keeping to himself.

He'd been meaning to check out the holodeck, and when he noticed its changes - its glow - he approached, curiously looking at the forest setting in front of him. He'd never seen anything so green.

He considered the man mumbling to himself, before his curiosity beat out his tact, and he questioned: ]

Hiya. What are you doin', exactly?

Attempting to recreate something I... scarcely remember.

[ It was around when he was small. A small forest. He remembers one... before everything with the Karma Society. He's not bothered by the lack of tact, he's used to dealing with the Embryon. ]

Although, to be honest, I'm not sure it's perfect. Memories fade.

That's the way of things.

[ Even though, sometimes, he wished they didn't. He turned his head towards the trees, looking them over with some curiosity. Cloudbank had trees... but no forests, not really. Not even parks had trees too close together, not that parks lasted very long there. ]

If you can't tell, it's probably good enough, don't you think?

[ It's a good point, definitely. ]

Someone like me would obsess over the details, though. I suppose it can't be helped.

[ He's a small-time writer. It happens. ]

From the sound of it, it probably can't.

[ The large man gave a polite but rueful shrug. ]

If it's alright to ask, where've you been, if you haven't seen trees? Or were you tryin' to recreate forests?

[ He'd understand the latter, of course - but the former's an interesting question. ]

People only honor things when it suits their purposes. I wouldn't think that the environment is much of an exception to that.

[There's nothing particularly surprising about the forest - not when people are particularly fond of recreating places to take back a small piece of their home, even if it was an illusion. Still, it's not hard to see that there's something a little more significant to this place than just that, in Roland's case.]

... I suppose that tends to be true of most people, yes.

[ Yeah, it's. Something he doesn't see often. Roland will turn. ]

Putting people first all the time causes problems at the best of times for the earth; expecting it to live through numerous wars and other things is asking too much. I like to think the planet just finally ran out of patience for humanity's stupidity when it dried up.

["When it dried up"... well, that explains the projection, presumably. The idea of war ravaging both the land and the people isn't foreign to him and his own world, and yet, it doesn't quite match the scope of what Roland's implying.]

That's a rather pessimistic view you have. Isn't it times like those when human ingenuity shines? Especially if it threatens their own survival.

It might only be natural for a select few to emerge that are decent in all that, I suppose. There's a lot of potential for good in people, but I've noticed we have a tendency to waste that.

Sometimes, belief that things will change for the better may very well be the only motivation for action. I won't be so presumptuous as to say that you should keep your chin up, but people with no hope stagnate.

[Maybe you could even go as far as saying they stop living after a while...]
