Since we know a lot of people are ready and eager to start playing around in this setting, welcome to the official Airlocked Test Drive! For this test drive, we do have a posting format:

In the header of your comment, put your Character's Name and their Champion title. You don't have to put in the canon if you don't want, but you can if you feel the need.

And the guidelines we ask you to follow are, please try to include at least one prompt in your top-level to reply to, and if you make a top-level try to tag out to at least one other person. We want everyone to get a chance to give their choices a fair shake, after all.

Here are some examples to get you started:

A - Arrival
You wake up in a bed that's not your own, in a shiny chrome room that has bright fluorescent lights that light up along the floor as soon as your feet hit it and glowing sconces on the walls. Whether it's much different from what you're used to or not different at all, it's time to figure out where you are and more importantly, whether you're alone.

B - Mealtime
Well sweet, at least there's a cafeteria! But wait, it seems like there's only hot food during certain times of day. The rest of the time if you go foraging in the kitchen you can find weird silver packages with the name of food on the side that...definitely don't seem big enough to hold the food in question. If you open it up, it seems oddly dry...

C - Zero G
A zero gravity room! Awesome! The walls and floor are textured to give you something to hang onto to crawl across back to the control panel, but if you're floating in the middle of the room you might need someone to give you a push.

D - Holo Deck
A room where all your dreams come true. Kind of. In a photorealistic display of light and sound.

E - Anything else!

This is not an official reserve, nor does it guarantee a slot in the game, but if you do choose to app a character that you test drove, you can use two minimum 20-comment threads or one minimum 40-comment thread (so at least 20 total comments from your character) in place of writing a sample. ['Because I'm hungry? Why else do people get food!']

I'm just hungry. I had kind of a crazy day before waking up here and didn't eat as much as I should have, even without getting kidnapped overnight.

[he ponders for a second, then steps aside. And yes, yes he's going to watch you get food Mister]

Hurry up then.

[He's just going to. Edge carefully around so that he can keep his eye on you until he's clear of stabbing range. And maybe a bit past that. He's also muttering under his breath.]

Jeeze, and I thought passing through Lieutenant Commander Vanderkam's hangar was a trial...

[He's not making any move to grab a knife, though. Just giving the freeze dried food a disgusted look as he continues to mutter to himself. Not that it stops him from preparing it.]

And what's with this? Next thing I'm going to find out there isn't even any coffee...

[He huffs at the mumbling, crossing his arms and watching... though he can't help but be curious about the dried food]

[He's stressed, okay? Especially with certain people POINTING KNIVES AT HIM when he's already half expecting someone to try to murder him at any second.

He mixes the dried food with hot water, then goes to ransack the cabinets in search of coffee...but not before shooting a nervous glance over at the guy with the knife. Several pauses for more cautious glances later, he manages to find a jar full of dark brown powder.]

Instant...why am I not surprised? Whatever, at least it's coffee...

[And one more look over at the GUY WITH THE KNIFE.]

You're not going to stab me if I open the drawer for a fork and spoon, are you?

I'm not going to stab anyone, damn it! I'm trying to avoid stabbing.

Well what do you expect me to think when you pointed a knife at me just for trying to go into the kitchen?! People usually don't point knives unless they're thinking of stabbing someone! I really don't need this today...

I didn't point it! I just have it!

[It's splitting hairs but Takumi doesn't care]

You have it while blocking a doorway, it's close enough.

[Mumble grumble something about having had enough of something. He's going to go ahead and grab his silverware (he picked something he won't need to cut for the sake of avoiding being stabbed for picking up a steak knife) and get some hot water for coffee. Still not taking his eyes off Takumi for more than a couple seconds.]

I'm not going to apologize for wanting to be able to defend myself.

[He stares at the food]

...what is that?

Wanting to defend yourself doesn't explain blocking people off from the kitchen. You're gonna give someone a heart attack like that. Like me, for instance.

[You know, he's almost tempted not to answer. Or to give some sort of sarcastic answer like, 'it's food.' But his survival instinct says it's a bad idea to be deliberately difficult with someone holding a sharp weapon.]

This? It's supposed to be spaghetti, but they've probably freeze dried all the flavor out of it.

People panic! If anyone can just come grab a knife then someone could come do something stupid, that's all.

... spa... getti?

[What the fuck is a freeze dry]

So hide the knives or something. You don't have to make people think you're going to kill them because they want a snack.

[Mutter grumble okay he is putting way more instant coffee in that hot water than any person ever should. And ignoring that questioning repeat of the name of the food, he is not feeling helpful right now.]

...good idea.

[So now he's gonna take all the knives]

Hey, leave the small ones for eating! Some of this stuff actually needs to be cut, you know!

[What is he doing, why is he arguing with a person holding lots of stabby things. Why is his life such that he has to ask himself why he's arguing with someone holding lots of stabby things?]

[Weak Nohrians and their need to all these utensils]

You can't have it both ways.

I don't think a steak knife is going to make a very good weapon. They're not made for that sort of thing.

...fine. But if anyone gets stabbed with one I'm blaming you.

I don't think most people's thought with a steak knife is going to be 'this is good for stabbing someone.'

[Adding way too much sugar to his way too strong coffee.]

And at this rate, if anyone gets stabbed in a panic, it's probably going to be the guy who seems the most dangerous.

[He's not stupid, Allen. He knows who you are implying, and it shows on his face]

Don't get any smart ideas.

[He raises his hands in a 'don't look at me' gesture.']

Hey, I'm not even a fighter. All I'm saying is that right now, you're the one who looks most likely to be a threat.

Good. Then no one will try anything.

[Sure, someone could point to him at a trial, but right now they have no idea trials are a thing so /kanye shrug]

Unless they think they're in danger. Do you really think you're the only one here that's going to be jumpy about someone doing something stupid?

I can protect myself just fine.

The idea of knife fights in the hallways isn't exactly reassuring. Even if only one of the people fighting has a knife.

[Mmmm, coffee. Coffee will help with the stress, right?]
