Since we know a lot of people are ready and eager to start playing around in this setting, welcome to the official Airlocked Test Drive! For this test drive, we do have a posting format:

In the header of your comment, put your Character's Name and their Champion title. You don't have to put in the canon if you don't want, but you can if you feel the need.

And the guidelines we ask you to follow are, please try to include at least one prompt in your top-level to reply to, and if you make a top-level try to tag out to at least one other person. We want everyone to get a chance to give their choices a fair shake, after all.

Here are some examples to get you started:

A - Arrival
You wake up in a bed that's not your own, in a shiny chrome room that has bright fluorescent lights that light up along the floor as soon as your feet hit it and glowing sconces on the walls. Whether it's much different from what you're used to or not different at all, it's time to figure out where you are and more importantly, whether you're alone.

B - Mealtime
Well sweet, at least there's a cafeteria! But wait, it seems like there's only hot food during certain times of day. The rest of the time if you go foraging in the kitchen you can find weird silver packages with the name of food on the side that...definitely don't seem big enough to hold the food in question. If you open it up, it seems oddly dry...

C - Zero G
A zero gravity room! Awesome! The walls and floor are textured to give you something to hang onto to crawl across back to the control panel, but if you're floating in the middle of the room you might need someone to give you a push.

D - Holo Deck
A room where all your dreams come true. Kind of. In a photorealistic display of light and sound.

E - Anything else!

This is not an official reserve, nor does it guarantee a slot in the game, but if you do choose to app a character that you test drove, you can use two minimum 20-comment threads or one minimum 40-comment thread (so at least 20 total comments from your character) in place of writing a sample. So have fun with it!

[Well, Mai might not talk, but that didn't mean Angel couldn't be polite. After swallowing her most recent bite, she lifted a hand and wiggled her fingers at the girl. There was a smile on her lips, kind as ever.]

[Mai pauses for about a second before continuing to lineface and eat. There's your reaction.]

It's good.

[The siren blinked, then allowed a grin to form on her lips. A response had been unexpected, but was certainly welcome all the same.]

I agree. [She thought about saying it was the best thing she had ever eaten but such praise was easy enough to obtain when it came to her. She was marginally certain she had even said it before.]

Better than the instant things.

Is it like your home? The food.

That's true.

[Angel was quick to avert her gaze at Mai's question, all but blanching at her words. She hadn't been forthcoming about the details of her past -- and with good reason, too. Trying to navigate this particular question, especially when she had no poker face, was quickly proving to be a bit of a challenge.]

Not... Not really.

Hm. It's different for me, too.

The rations are tasteless.

From what I've heard, they usually are. Meant to help military folk survive, not thrive.

[She was certain she'd heard Axton grumble about that much at one point or another.]

At least there is this?

Military... Is that what they think of us?

Or prisoners, perhaps. [Likely they were served something similar, after all.]

Makes sense. I just wonder what they want with the survivor.

The perfect bachelor, if rumors are to be believed?

...I don't want to marry them.

[If a lineface can look perplexed and grossed out but still muted, Mai has that completely under control.]

I don't think anyone here wants to marry anyone else. [Angel's head tilted slightly, while her lips tried to work themselves into a reassuring smile. A difficult task, considering her own distress.]

It's okay, though. We will all find a way out of this -- I am sure of it.

At least not the Overseer. Who would marry him.

Some with just as much depravity as he has. So... neither of us, at least.

What about others?

That... is hard to say. [She wished she could somehow reassure the girl that she would be safe from such people but... the words simply did not come to her. She'd never been all that fond of lying, even when she was forced to do so.]

It seems that there are many people here who will keep us safe. Best to focus on that.

I'll be fine. You should protect yourself.

[Back home, she might have responded that her self-preservation protocols had been disabled. It was far easier than saying that she had forgotten how to put herself first.]

[But that wasn't possible, here.]

I can do both, don't you think? Worry about you and protect myself?

[Mai shifts in her seat uncomfortably. She frowns.]

There's no need, though.

[Sensing the mood shift, Angel let the subject go.]

Have you been settling in well?

It's okay. They feed us. But I should get home.

You?

Food isn't the only key to being comfortable... [Angel was going to carefully ignore the third and fourth parts of Mai's sentence. Home was a foreign concept, and she certainly didn't want to get into why.]

There are people, too. ...They're all right. Kind, mostly.

I agree. [Surprising, considering the way her father described outsiders. She supposed that it helped that none of them really knew who or what she was.]
