Since we know a lot of people are ready and eager to start playing around in this setting, welcome to the official Airlocked Test Drive! For this test drive, we do have a posting format:

In the header of your comment, put your Character's Name and their Champion title. You don't have to put in the canon if you don't want, but you can if you feel the need.

And the guidelines we ask you to follow are, please try to include at least one prompt in your top-level to reply to, and if you make a top-level try to tag out to at least one other person. We want everyone to get a chance to give their choices a fair shake, after all.

Here are some examples to get you started:

A - Arrival
You wake up in a bed that's not your own, in a shiny chrome room that has bright fluorescent lights that light up along the floor as soon as your feet hit it and glowing sconces on the walls. Whether it's much different from what you're used to or not different at all, it's time to figure out where you are and more importantly, whether you're alone.

B - Mealtime
Well sweet, at least there's a cafeteria! But wait, it seems like there's only hot food during certain times of day. The rest of the time if you go foraging in the kitchen you can find weird silver packages with the name of food on the side that...definitely don't seem big enough to hold the food in question. If you open it up, it seems oddly dry...

C - Zero G
A zero gravity room! Awesome! The walls and floor are textured to give you something to hang onto to crawl across back to the control panel, but if you're floating in the middle of the room you might need someone to give you a push.

D - Holo Deck
A room where all your dreams come true. Kind of. In a photorealistic display of light and sound.

E - Anything else!

This is not an official reserve, nor does it guarantee a slot in the game, but if you do choose to app a character that you test drove, you can use two minimum 20-comment threads or one minimum 40-comment thread (so at least 20 total comments from your character) in place of writing a sample. So have fun with it!

[...Karamatsu blinks, standing up straight again.]

[ wrong. this is gonna happen every night. ]

[HE CAN DEAL WITH THAT.

It's like a switch got flipped in Karamatsu, then. His look of suspicion turns to one of clear relief as he turns back around, reaching out with one hand to pat Choromatsu's shoulder while holding his pillow beneath his other arm.]

You have made the right decision, Brother. Do not worry...if anyone comes knocking on our door tonight, I will protect us both.

[Our door, he says.

And with that, Karamatsu shoulders past Choromatsu with the intention of sitting down on the edge of his bed.]

My door, Karamatsu!!

[ He turns as Karamatsu goes past him, looking at him on the bed ]

Geez... you know if you had just told me you were scared from the get go this would have been a lot easier.

Mmm...

[Karamatsu settles, placing his pillow in his lap so he can fold his arms over it.]

You do not find it strange?

[Just completely ignoring that, apparently.]

That they placed us in different rooms, I mean.

These rooms are tiny, they're not big enough for two people.

[ he kicks the wall next to him for emphasis ]

Maybe so, but they had to know we were siblings regardless.

Karamatsu is acting all cool and collected and like Choromatsu is the problem here, yet he's sitting there with one of his knees bouncing while his eyes never stay on one part of the room for more than a moment or two at a time before he's glancing away.]

Most siblings have their own rooms. The only reason we didn't is because our house was too small.

[ but he notices the way Karamatsu is being so he... sighs and takes a seat next to him on the bed. ]

You make it sound like you want to be in here by yourself.

[It takes Karamatsu a second to realize the mistake he made, saying that, and he's quick to backpedal.]

B-but...of course you don't, or else I would not be here.

[ ROLLING HIS EYES SO HARD ]

I wanted to get a good night's sleep without feeling all cramped in this tiny bed.

[ and also for no one to see him at his most freaked out but ]

Oi, I already told you I would sleep on the floor. You can still have the bed without being cramped.

[You know...for however long that actually lasts.]

[ he sighs again, though it's less of an annoyed one this time ]

I'm not letting you sleep on the floor, Karamatsu.

But...you said it would be cramped in this tiny bed?

[He definitely assumed the floor would be where he was sleeping...he's just sitting here now because they're both still awake.]

It will be but it's better than leaving you on the floor!

We sleep in the same bed all the time anyway, it'd be weird if we didn't.

[Every single one of your other siblings would probably disagree with that statement, Choromatsu. Karamatsu deserves to be on the floor. That's where shit belongs.

He opens his mouth like he's going to argue, but then closes it and looks away again, his fingers playing with the edge of the pillowcase on his pillow. It feels very stiff and starchy, like it's not been used...not at all like his own back home that has been slept on thousands of times.]

Mm, well...I suppose it would be easier to keep an eye on you, and keep you company, that way.
