Since we know a lot of people are ready and eager to start playing around in this setting, welcome to the official Airlocked Test Drive! For this test drive, we do have a posting format:

In the header of your comment, put your Character's Name and their Champion title. You don't have to put in the canon if you don't want, but you can if you feel the need.

And the guidelines we ask you to follow are, please try to include at least one prompt in your top-level to reply to, and if you make a top-level try to tag out to at least one other person. We want everyone to get a chance to give their choices a fair shake, after all.

Here are some examples to get you started:

A - Arrival
You wake up in a bed that's not your own, in a shiny chrome room that has bright fluorescent lights that light up along the floor as soon as your feet hit it and glowing sconces on the walls. Whether it's much different from what you're used to or not different at all, it's time to figure out where you are and more importantly, whether you're alone.

B - Mealtime
Well sweet, at least there's a cafeteria! But wait, it seems like there's only hot food during certain times of day. The rest of the time if you go foraging in the kitchen you can find weird silver packages with the name of food on the side that...definitely don't seem big enough to hold the food in question. If you open it up, it seems oddly dry...

C - Zero G
A zero gravity room! Awesome! The walls and floor are textured to give you something to hang onto to crawl across back to the control panel, but if you're floating in the middle of the room you might need someone to give you a push.

D - Holo Deck
A room where all your dreams come true. Kind of. In a photorealistic display of light and sound.

E - Anything else!

This is not an official reserve, nor does it guarantee a slot in the game, but if you do choose to app a character that you test drove, you can use two minimum 20-comment threads or one minimum 40-comment thread (so at least 20 total comments from your character) in place of writing a sample. So have fun with it!

[ Okay, now she gets it. She's not bothered by the state of the food herself but she does realize that she's a bit of an outlier in that regard. ]

I'm sure it can't be that bad though, can it? It's just a bit of dehydrated food.

[ She leans in a bit so she can squint at the package he's holding. ]

What did you find?

[ holds it up towards her ]

It says it's a ham sandwich.

[ AND HE DOES LIKE HAM BUT... IT'S TOO SMALL.......... ]

I doubt it though.

Maybe it just needs a little bit of water?

[ She hasn't added any to this beef but honestly Yuuri is probably going to eat it with or without the extra water. ]

You could always try it without and see what you think. Then you can decide if it's worth the fuss of trying to rehydrate it? Or at least you'll know to avoid the sandwiches.

[ He looks back at the bag, making the kind of face a little kid makes when they're told to eat their bell peppers

He's grumbling now ]

I'm still not convinced it's not poison... or made from people.

[ Aaah, she's seen that face before. That's a Yuki Face. It's... admittedly kind of hilarious to see it on a grown man and she can't help but play along. It's all but coded into her DNA at this point. ]

Well, no one's gotten sick from eating any of it yet, have they? [ she almost says no one's dropped dead but that would probably be in poor taste considering the circumstances. ] It's better than starving at least.

[ she peers down at her little packet of so-called beef for a moment and then says: ]

Well, how about this? I'll try mine first. If I don't keel over as soon as I take a bite then yours is probably safe, too.

[ THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT PLAN AND HE'S ALMOST ABOUT TO AGREE, YES YOU DO IT, YOU TAKE THE RISK... but...

he sighs ]

No... no, it's fine. I'll try it first.

I'd hate myself if a girl died because I was too stubborn to eat earlier.

[ ...so that's it. He just doesn't want a cute girl to die because of him. Or accidentally become a cannibal. ]

Oh, then I'll be sure to tell everyone about your brave, brave sacrifice. Only if anything goes wrong, of course.

[ Her face really is a murder weapon. Rest in pieces, Choromatsu. ]

Go ahead and tell me how it tastes.

[ Choromatsu just... stares at her incredulously for a moment.

But then he's back to the package... and reluctantly opening it, pulling out the "space food" partially.

What... the heck is this??

This doesn't look like ham. It doesn't even look like food!!

[ YOU WERE THE ONE WHO VOLUNTEERED... but now she's also seeing the food, she can't blame him for being a bit unsure. ]

It... definitely looks interesting.

[ which is a nice way of saying it TOTALLY looks like poison. ]

... are you still going to take a bite?

[ He grimaces at it for a long time, not responding to her.

Gotta face the music...

Eventually he brings it up to his face and just. Very quickly takes a bite. A BIG bite. ]

[ And then just as quickly ends up sputtering and coughing. Yeah he can't. He can't. ]

GROSS! IT'S GROSS!!

[ Ohhhh okay that's sort of what she was expecting but she's still glad she's not the one who went and shoved her food in her mouth like that. She tries not to laugh but the little pfft that comes out of her mouth is pretty telling. ]

So it isn't really edible, is it? [ and now she's actually laughing. so cruel, riisan. ] And I went and made you eat it, I'm sorry!

[ He throws the rest of it on the ground dramatically, package and all ]

IT'S MORE THAN INEDIBLE! IT'S GARBAGE!! TRASH!! DISGUSTING TRASH!!!

I'm going right to those stupid Overseers and complaining RIGHT NOW! If they expect us to live here then they should frickin' feed us actual food!!!

[ You know. She should probably do something to stop this escalating. It's just food, after all, and they don't need to keep picking fights with the people keeping them alive for now. ]

Oh, you should! Definitely. You should give them a piece of your mind! I'll even come with you, if you want.

[ but on the other hand

Choromatsu is loud and their Overseers are assholes and there's no way this isn't going to be hilarious. ]

[ you know, later it might strike him as weird that a girl was actually agreeing with him for a change...

...ok no it won't, it never will

he kicks the package across the kitchen floor ]

[ He's so mad. So mad. It's probably a little childish to find this so funny but... really Choromatsu, it's not like you make it hard. ]

It's near the library isn't it? [ if... she remembers right... she's been avoiding them like the plague but she knows some of the others go and talk to their lovely hosts now and then. ] I don't think it'll be that hard to find if we do have to look around, though.
