[Starting with Tuesday's episode on therapy and feelings and all that nonsense, Ardyn casually seemed to be avoiding eye contact with the screen whenever Noctis was shown. He'd focus on a cup of coffee, occupy himself with writing something or other in a notebook, or divert his attention to the galaxy pigeon on his shoulder. Occasionally, he'd even toss out a remark like:]

Goodness, a four hundred year old vampire. She must feel terribly infinite and endless. [And yes, there was a sarcastic eyeroll with that.] Her name's certainly longer than mine, I'll give her credit for that much.

[Sarcasm aside, Ardyn might have been acting a little weird. But maybe someone who squinted a little for a minute would be able to spot the potential issue.]

[He is here. Because he's not going to make people report anything to him or come grab him if something happens, no, he has to face this. Like Ardyn. At the very least he has to be here for Ardyn's sake. And of course he notices. But...not...entirely 100% sure what it's about. Ardyn rarely ever does shame, after all.]

You know what would make all this better? Booze. We could even invent a season four drinking game at some point.

[Ardyn produced a half-empty cinnamon hangover in a bottle from the Armiger, casually pouring some into his coffee before handing it over.]

I left some in the kitchen, but certainly not everything.

Man, I know it's been said, but I can't believe that's the Chosen Kid. Less kid, more...embracing his good family genes, I guess.

I neglected to acknowledge ten years passed in the process. He's less of a child than I may have implied.

He'd still a kid. Even if he looks my outward age. When he's scruffy. Sans scruff, it really takes a couple years off. He'll always be the Chosen Kid, though. He'll just have to get used to being the royal baby.

[Ardyn glanced to Church out of the corner of his eye as Noctis started talking about his age, taking a drink of his now very much spiked coffee.]

You're all absurdly young to me. My standards are different.

Look. It's all relative, and some of us are probably gonna start lying about our ages anyway.

...How you holding up?

I'm quite fine, for now. [Just not looking at the screen. Normal.]

I'm glad they're all meeting and discussing things early. Maybe things will turn out better! Don't you think?

We did the same thing fairly early on. I doubt I need to point out that it failed to prevent much.

But that's only because they kept interfering. And they had to go over the top every time to do it! Don't you think that means something?

Much as I'd like to be something resembling optimistic, I expect the proverbial other shoe is bound to drop sooner or later here as well.

I know it's likely that this will go badly. But I also think there's no reason to give up so soon. Wherever they are, they must be counting on us.

...Or were, considering the timeframe.

They must be keeping them somewhere, even if this was pre-filmed. Just like our friends in the simulation.

Or they escaped as we did--then it becomes a matter of what happened to the ones who no doubt didn't survive.

Hm. Older and I have a longer name. I think the victory is clearly mine.

[Ardyn managed a quiet laugh despite everything, Luscinia fluttering her wings before settling in place on his shoulder.]

Fate forbid I lose that honorable title.

We will definitely help you defend that title, don't worry. Even from vampires, which I am not surprised they brought on board.

[She would pat his shoulder but the therapy pigeon is there]

I'll admit that's something we didn't have at home. Even with all the daemons, I don't believe I can think of one that was strictly a vampire.
