Week 1, Tuesday

[So. Nothing is okay. Everything is on fire. Mental breakdowns are definitely par for the course for refugees of a galactic bloodsports reality show upon viewing the latest display. So you know what? For anyone else who's willing to put themselves through the pain, Jane has decided to make it as comforting as she possibly can. Not that it can be comforting, but...the thought counts for something, right? And she can't bring herself to sit at a computer glued to fandom forums and Spitter again. It's not good for hers or anyone's health.

Today, she has set out everything you might want or need for instant hot drinks. There's tea bags, packets of cocoa, instant coffee, creamer and milk and sweeteners, and an electric kettle she found in Yl'lb's cabinet, ready and waiting to pour out hot water. (And she's ready and waiting to refill and reheat it when needed. Isn't that nice?) There are also plenty of lemon herb cookies for people to nibble on. The entire process of prep, baking, and cleaning has worn her out, but it's a good kind of worn, and it keeps her from figeting or getting too anxious as she waits for the next "episode" to begin.

[Looking thoroughly exhausted already, Ardyn poured himself a cup of coffee with a faint note of unsteadiness in what was meant to sound casual.]

[He shrugged, putting a relatively normal amount of sugar in his coffee. We can't all be Kip.] I must admit I don't hear it either. The similarity I drew was based on demeanor, that's all.

[Nari knows she's not alone but this is probably the first time in a while where she's wanted to be around people. Guess who stayed up after everyone went to bed to watch the beginning of the new season? This gal!

She sits down beside Jane with a bottle of some kind of alien alcohol she nabbed at the mall, Stabbycat stopping beside her with a cup of coffee and a pigeon sitting on him.]

So. That Akande dude is kinda hot, Noctowl doesn't look like someone Ardad should be afraid of, and that Fukiwi girl? She looks like someone who will shank you in a heartbeat.

[Nari. What even.] Oh, and the cop guy with the shark species name? Totally calling first kill there. No one likes detectives.

Hmmm...I suppose Mister Akande is attractive, but he's not particularly my type. No, Noctis doesn't seem like he's scary, just sleepy like a cat in the sun. And Miss Fukawa...well, to be fair, I think we have both known people who would "shank you in a heartbeat".

Hm, do you mean Mako? I...I don't know. I don't want to start theorizing on that sort of thing. It never leads to anything good.

Noctowl. The owl Pokemon. Sleeps all day, looks kinda mad all the time, and one of its abilities is Insomnia. That's the place he's from, right? So, Noctowl.

I don't understand it either...I mean, if it's not someone using Life powers, which I highly doubt, then...why? And how? Reconstructing a body is one thing, but you're right about souls. [Whatever it is that makes us us is not so easily recreated.] It'd be easier to just get people who are already alive, rather than go through all the trouble.

If they hath mastery over time itself, I suppose they could [ ugh ] steal away with him, before it was too late. And they must have that. How else could any of us be here?

... but still I know not why they should work so hard to the purpose.

I don't know how exactly they'd do it, but if consciousness works the same way here as it does where I'm from, it wouldn't be impossible.

Speaking as one of the supposedly-dead people in question, I'm at just as much a loss as any of you. Especially considering that perhaps even my soul itself would likely have been in a...questionable state, now that I think of it.

It's...as much as it was before. And that was immense, so...at least, if I'm not numb to it, I haven't become jaded or anything. Right?
