Since we know a lot of people are ready and eager to start playing around in this setting, welcome to the official Airlocked Test Drive! For this test drive, we do have a posting format:

In the header of your comment, put your Character's Name and their Champion title. You don't have to put in the canon if you don't want, but you can if you feel the need.

And the guidelines we ask you to follow are, please try to include at least one prompt in your top-level to reply to, and if you make a top-level try to tag out to at least one other person. We want everyone to get a chance to give their choices a fair shake, after all.

Here are some examples to get you started:

A - Arrival
You wake up in a bed that's not your own, in a shiny chrome room that has bright fluorescent lights that light up along the floor as soon as your feet hit it and glowing sconces on the walls. Whether it's much different from what you're used to or not different at all, it's time to figure out where you are and more importantly, whether you're alone.

B - Mealtime
Well sweet, at least there's a cafeteria! But wait, it seems like there's only hot food during certain times of day. The rest of the time if you go foraging in the kitchen you can find weird silver packages with the name of food on the side that...definitely don't seem big enough to hold the food in question. If you open it up, it seems oddly dry...

C - Zero G
A zero gravity room! Awesome! The walls and floor are textured to give you something to hang onto to crawl across back to the control panel, but if you're floating in the middle of the room you might need someone to give you a push.

D - Holo Deck
A room where all your dreams come true. Kind of. In a photorealistic display of light and sound.

E - Anything else!

This is not an official reserve, nor does it guarantee a slot in the game, but if you do choose to app a character that you test drove, you can use two minimum 20-comment threads or one minimum 40-comment thread (so at least 20 total comments from your character) in place of writing a sample. So have fun with it!

[Zero gravity conditions aren't new to McGillis, considering the amount of space travel he's had to do for his inspections, but it's no surprise that some may be less familiar with it.

Case in point.

[His face doesn't betray the fact that he pretty much got flashed her undies not a second ago. He's got this, don't worry. :|b]

[He was really just passing by, but when he hears someone calling to him, he looks into the Zero-G room, and...oh.]

Ah...moving in zero gravity isn't really my strong suit, but I can give it a try.

[ he's just going to be crossing his arms. ]

Scotty?! [Not where he was supposed to be. Shit. This was probably not the enterprise? Not unless the crew quarters had gone through a serious upgrade. Which, well she was new so who knows but it didn't seem like Starfleet's style.]

Scotty!? C'mon![Dammit he has a Vulcan to piss off... He heads out of the room quick and determined, looking for a console so he can determine the fastest route to the bridge. Except he can't find a console and the adrenaline starts to wear down at that point, leaving him standing there, leaning against a wall with his lips pressed together thoughtfully.]

What the hell did you screw up, old man?

[This at least was normal for Jim. Food at certain times, things that were easy to make in a ship's galley. See the main difference was that the staff of the Enterprise was well aware that they could actually probably kill their Captain with misplaced ingredients.

He had no idea who made this stuff but food was food and, baring some relatively unlikely ingredients considering it was mac & cheese, he wasn't going to go into anaphylactic shock. Hopefully.]

Here goes nothin'

[Caren's heart nearly stops. She checks herself over as they're reading the profiles, then looks at the person thumbing through their PIP.]

"Species: mermaid?" They must be on drugs.

[Shallow laugh.]

[Caren's doing surprisingly well maneuvering in zero-G, actually. She spins around and, floating upside down, greets you coming in.]

Something going on?

I don't really care either way.

[ wow what a charmer, eh. ]

... But I guess it's better than seeing the same thing all the time.

Nothing like real life, huh?

This looks disgusting. I've never seen it before, either.

[ So by now Rhys has kind of figured out they're from the same place... but he's not sure what her deal is, exactly! But hey, it's... good (?) to know someone has an idea of where you come from and where you'll be going with this whole fucking nutso deal is over. ]

You, uhh... you're chewing before you swallow, right?

[ You know, crazy stuff keeps happening in this place. Rhys is determined to not be shocked by anything anymore. He's heard of weirder crap on Pandora. Except when he enters the room...

[Caren flips around and sighs as she floats back upward.]

[ All is quiet on the space... place. For a few blessed moments. And then- ]

[ Ah, There She Is. A small angry redhead in the hallway. I'm so sorry, you're the first person she sees. She storms right up, reclusiveness gone in favor of fury. ]

What the hell is going on?

[ Most people might... be Shocked at the weird food. But not her. Kinzie just sort of... sets to prepping some sweet sweet astronaut meat. Assuming it's just freeze-dried or dehydrated, that is. Come watch or strike up a conversation? ]

[ Now this is her jam. Kinzie is in the holodeck late at night just testing its ability to make a dingy room full of, um. Chains. Ropes. Whips. Racks. She's living up to her title, is the point. ]

What, they can kidnap us across dimensions but they don't have hard light? The program interface gives plenty of control, you could at least ...

[ And without giving much indication that she's heard anyone else come in physically, though her tone is clearly directed at whatever poor soul just came in... ]

... the lack of a lock is also problematic.

Arrival

[Mikaela woke up confused-- ironically not for the first time. But this was not any of the places she'd since become familiar with. She checked her forehead-- it felt cool to the touch. She didn't feel ill. But had she somehow overdone it again? And these clothes...

Quietly she picks herself out of bed and begins looking around outside for other signs of life. If she had been brought here, then surely she should be able to find someone who could explain what had happened to her.]

Excuse me?

Holo Deck

[...her dreams, huh? What was displayed was a peaceful forest; thick and lush and full of life. You could hear the sounds of birds and of water and no matter how you looked at it everything was calm and wonderful. But Mikaela has to laugh a bit. It's funny when you think about it. Dreams weren't simple things after all.]

If I could live there with the people I cared about most in a happy way... I suppose that would be my dream.

[Even though it was the very place she left. Life was funny that way, she supposed. But by itself this place was no longer her everything. Instead now it was a piece of her. And truthfully she thought it was... something to be happy about, at the very least.]

That's a shame. I-I was hoping to be useful...

[ All she can really do is cook, even if she's a bit slow... ]

I admit my only knowledge about vectors is that they have something to do with physics. I leave that sort of thing to Madam Chairman or Master Gwyn. I'm just the Reinford family's maid and currently Class VII's caretaker.

[So that amounts to, why bother with a mere servant to a common businesswoman who is currently serving a bunch of students. She may not be an ordinary maid that someone could easily get the drop on, but she pales in comparison to many powerful people she knows.]

[Smart man because she'd definitely troll him if he mentioned getting a peek, just to evade the fact that she's already hiding a few things under that skirt of hers.]

You've never heard of Vector Industries? How is that even possible? They're the biggest company in the galaxy.

I can assure you that I know all of the competition, potential or otherwise for the Reinford Company and I certainly have heard nothing about a Vector Industries.

[ At the very least, Luck understands the suit. It's classier than what he usually goes for, but he gets it. Everything else about this situation? Not so much. But he certainly doesn't look it as he saunters out to look at the profiles. He's a boss, fear is something he absolutely cannot afford to show, right?

When he sees his title, Luck clicks his tongue. ]

Holodeck

[ Listen, Luck comes from a time before space travel. Hell, there's probably a lot of cultural touchstones people reference that sort of fly right over his head. So he's made this grand incredible holodeck into... a bar. A dirty basement speakeasy. He's not even really drinking or anything, just sort of sitting at a table mulling over some cards. If he sees someone enter, though, he might wave them over. ]

Care for a game? This damn room can't make real booze, but at least this still works.

The instructions say to add water, but personally, that sounds vile.

[Junpei glances up from his own PIP with the most wonderful blend of weary disgust on his face. (The worst part of waking up is corpses in your cup, et cetera.)]

Are you... [Well then. He looks Nishitani over.] You're serious. Wow.

[He gives the report on his PIP one more go-over, then shakes his head, sends it into sleep mode with the easy familiarity of the post-millennial, and heads for the location of the body without disclosing it. Because he's a jerk. Anyway, looks like he'll be checking out the space^TM casino, which is totally a thing I just made up right now.]

Did you hate that guy's guts or what?
